2016 Coaker Everett Memorial Shoot
31/08/2016
The 15th Coaker / Everett Families Memorial shoot is over for another year.
Denis Coaker & Tony Everett with their band of helpers set what was arguably the best three day shoot in NSW and it goes without saying that the success of this shoot is due to the people who get in and assist Tony and Denis with range set up, cooking, office duties, range pull down and clean up. So take a bow you champions because if you were in Rio you would have got Gold!
Over one hundred shooters and spectators attended the shoot over three days Friday 26th Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th August with glorious weather experienced across all three days.
The ranges were best described as challenging with the Everett Black duck stand introducing a special guest now infamously known as "Super Duck". This hard driven right to left descending crosser target across the dam caused many muffled curses in the shooting stand even from the most experienced shooter.
When this target was hit it drew cheers from fellow squad members and observers such was the skill needed to score a hit.
Tony and Chris Everett also had other well thought out target presentations with a seemingly easy 4 targets thrown as two lots of sim pair from traps 10 meters slightly left of the stand appearing to just float away slightly left to right of the shooter, they looked like an easy 4 targets. That is until you shot at them and wondered how did I miss that? Some shooters are still scratching their heads about that stand so you will have to ask Tony or Chris but I think all you will get is a wry smile.
The Coaker range featured the timed targets that are a feature at this shoot and Denis did not disappoint with the Grouse Butt station having 10 targets presented in pairs at six seconds intervals, it sounds easy but when shooters were in the stand, time somehow speeds up.
This was followed by the High Pheasant station where 10 single targets thrown from two traps five apiece went flying overhead at 15 metres with 5 second between each target. Again as you were in the stand time moves quickly although a few cleaned this station.
The timed targets finished with eight rabbits thrown as singles 5 seconds apart with a twist, one was quartering away at close range of 5metres and another moving right to left at 15 metres. Time management was an issue for many on these stand.
The most common thing encountered by all shooters was the smiles generated by the hitting of targets and the good natured ribbing and encouragement (some call it sledging) by squad mates and observers.
Saturday night saw a whole lamb and beef BBQ feast cooked by our club Captain and Chef “Chrisso” with entertainment of live music provided by the Club.
I am reliably informed that a great night was had by all and that some of our members were in fine voice with impromptu karaoke, I will not cause embarrassment by naming them.
