Cross takes out High Gun Event.

Despite the warm temperatures there was still plenty of action at the Dubbo Field and Game Clay Targets November monthly shoot with 46 shooters rolling up.

 Australian Simulated Field target shooting is one of the most popular and fastest growing shooting sports.

As the name suggests, it is a form of clay target shooting where the clay targets are thrown to represent the quarry that hunters would normally pursue using a shotgun, such as duck, quail, pheasant and even rabbits. In this sport no animal is harmed but the challenge of shooting in the field is the same.

This month the range was set for the first time in the clubs history by one of our female top guns Michelle Hooper, Michelle was not backward in letting the range workers know how she wanted it set up particularly with husband Ben.

At the completion day shooting it was a unanimous well done to Michelle and her team for the range set up. 

The monthly honours went to Like Cross on High Gun with 88, Peter Kay in A Grade with 86, Anthony Corderoy in B Grade with 83 and Ben Hooper in C grade with 75.

In Veterans division it was John Sidoti winning with 82 while Denis Coaker’s 75 saw him finish as the best in the Super Veterans. Michelle Hooper won the ladies with a total of 54.

In this type of shooting the targets are discs made of a clay pitch and are normally 10 cm in diameter and 2 cm high coloured Orange, Black or fluoro green but there are smaller sizes and different shapoes to add some variety of challenges.

All shooters are graded into classes so you only compete against those of similar abilities, the grades are AA, A, B, C, Ladies, juniors (under 18), Sub Juniors (under 15) and Veterans.

You don't need to hold a firearms licence to try this fun and sociable sport!

All are welcome to come and try, even juniors aged 12 and up (with adult/guardian supervision).
