2015 State selection shoot
07/03/2015
A terrific roll up of 66 competitors from many Field and Game clubs across the state Sydney, Mudgee, Mendooran, Temora and Ardlethan clubs to name but a few sent shooters male and female young and old from all grades to attended the 2015 Field and Game state selection shoot hosted by the Dubbo club.
I take liberty and deviate from the norm of reporting first up on the shoot results to take time to congratulate the unsung heroes of our sport and club.
The Range setters developed implemented and maintained two ranges on the day that presented a solid mix of targets in presentation and difficulty commensurate with the level of the shoot as a state selection shoot demands.
This was confirmed when Mr Ralph Ali, NSW Field and Game Clay Target Director and Mr Mick Munro, President NSW Field and Game incorporated both commented on the presentation of targets for the state selection shoot as outstanding.
Targets of note on the Eastern Range were at stand 2 target D, a driven right to left target that had Peter Kay design written all over it, fast and dropping with a slight curve away at the end and stand 3 target A where a high fast looper was presented that needed a lot more lead and drop than first thought.
The Western range also highlighted the range setter skills of slight deception at stand 2 target C where a right to left downhill low driven target was presented that was by far the toughest bird on the course and bought many unstruck followed at the next stand 3 targets A & B two springing teals and one with a twist in that it was a midi! Those teals were two outstanding targets that tested the most experienced shooters?
Only two shooters shot a clean round being Steven Aitkins & Mick Munro so a deserved well done guys.
The range setting team in no particular order were: Tony Everett, Peter Kay, Steven Smith, Neil Donaldson, Denis Coaker, Mark Hosking, John Sidoti, Anthony and Gaby who all combined presented shooters with a wonderful layout, the work these people put in as is with all range setters truly amazing.
When people are willing to shut their business down for several days and or take time off from their profession to camp for three days at the range to give our club and its visitors a great range, then we must as a whole say well done and thank you!
Big thanks to Danielle (Elle) McPhersons who ran the office with her usual craziness that simply just works so well along with the ever smiling Cris Monk also to Michelle Hooper and Michael O’Dell for the smooth running of registration in morning also to Ben Hooper for his technological expertise and supply of two very large TV’s for posting the scores to from the computer.
The meals for the Saturday selection shoot and Sunday club shoot were catered by the Narromine Rotary Club with fair pricing and tasty fine fare indeed.
Take a bow volunteers as all shooters thank you.

Finally:
Channel Seven Prime Orange news had a camera man at the range reporting on the state selection shoot and a sight of the day was club member Peter Tremble standing in as the reporter interviewing Ben Hooper and then Frank Araco on camera about the sport of Field and Game clay target shooting. Ben and Frank’s squad were quietly respectful during filming but when filming finished the good hearted sledging began in earnest as is the way in our sport of friends. I heard something about Frank needing captions and calling Ben Hollywood, but seriously thanks Frank and Ben for you generosity and time.
