20th & 21st September 2025 296 Targets – 120 Sporting 176 Timed
Well, what a weekend! Beautiful weather, awesome targets and great times were experienced by all that attended.
And if you didn’t attend – you missed out big time! This is one shoot you don’t want to miss so make sure you book it in for next year!
Shooters were treated to 120 sporting targets and 176 timed targets over the period of the 2 days. The Sponsors went back to mixing it up over the weekend so if you missed one day you still got a go at both events.
Sporting: Evo and Chris went about their sporting range and created some great stands including the Bernie Rawson & Tom Everett Black Duck – wasn’t that interesting, but we all know the reputation of that stand! They made you work for the chance to get your name on the trophy!
There were fast crossers, incomers, battues, loopers and outgoers – something for all levels of shooters. All of them kept you on your toes.
Those simm pairs made you swing that gun and gave you no time to think about measuring or any of that dumb stuff while looking for the 2nd target. The course was tweaked Saturday afternoon ready for Sunday, so you may of worked the targets out only to start scratching the head when you stepped out!
Both stands earning a shoot off – Jack, Adam & Horse for the Bernie Rawson – we had to move them 3 times to get a result! Black Duck dam saw PK & Jeff fighting it out for 2nd & 3rd.
Timed Events: DC – it scares me to think about what goes on in that mind of his! The pheasants off 4 traps, Simm overheads and simm high and low crossers, Grouse – simm pairs – plenty of time – nope they were gone! The shoot off turned into a mean feat.
Quails – low flying simms, landing out there pretty quick, Springing teals had a bit of outward slope to them again simms. The timing allowed for a quick reload but fumble a shell, they were out there, and the next pair were about to be released.
Rabbits – ha ha some shooters thought on the mat was a good place to hit them only for them to bounce and making a second shot necessary, this meant the 2nd rabbit was on its way. DC threw in a couple of last buckets to make it funnier?? The shoot off was nail biting, we had 10 shooters and due to time restraints it was held Sunday morning before shooting commenced for the day. Going 3m closer took a few out, but then he took it back about 10m with only 3 contenders left and rabbits could only be hit between the lost signs not before them quickly sorted the winner out
Partridge – This was a new stand in memory of Angus Brander who is DC’s grandson. 16 targets visited twice for the day, 6 traps – now I know what you are thinking, how does that work? Well, the lovely Amanda kept us in line by pushing our buttons and guiding us to which target was coming next when you looked lost and fumbling for shells!
You received 5 traps three times – 2 high incomers, high & low crossers, incomer/crosser that was lost at the tree (literally it disappeared in the tree) and after the 3rd round she would yell “into the water” meaning the 6th trap was in play and heading into the dam like a bat outta of hell. This stand deemed a lot of fun and will be returning bigger and better next year for those who missed out.
Again, the Classic Pheasant Gun & SxS Gun competition brought a few shooters game enough to tackle the courses already hobbled, auto safety, double triggers and very hot barrels. One behind the scenes competition was between DC and his grandson Sam both using a pheasant gun. There was talk of sabotage, “light loads” that will definitely smash these targets and if Sam beat grandad, he got to keep the gun? Sam may have got around him but the gun went home with DC.
